One of the most powerful, most impressive things about the 735XT is that it is a very stylish device with many features in it. If you’ve seen the 910XT or the Forerunner 920XT, you know Garmin’s previous triathlon watches are thick things to wear on your wrist.
Somehow Garmin was able to place all this technology in a thin, round model. It’s not the smallest in the world – people will still recognize it as a fitness watch on your wrist – but it’s more stylish than most.
It comes in two colors: black and frost blue (we tested the second one and it got a lot of attention when the color of the strap was indexed with the 735XT’s face) and the rubberized straps are really comfortable even when ed. Open tightly to make heart rate monitoring easier.
Compared to some smartwatches on the market, the display is low-resolution – it won’t rival apple watch 3, for example – but it can be read perfectly under any circumstances without having to turn it off to save battery.

We love running with the Garmin Forerunner 735XT for a number of reasons – mostly because it’s an accurate and easy-to-use machine that connects to your wrist.
We used a more exclusive working model, the Forerunner 630, for several months, but the fact that it uses a touchscreen was uncomfortable. There’s no such problem with the 735XT – it’s all this button, so you can stroke your wrist without looking for the right button on the screen to finish a race or record an event.
Accuracy is perfect and therefore, if we want to compare another wearable device, it’s what we need to watch for a race. We’ve even started to deny mile marks in races, that’s the overall accuracy of GPS.
This GPS can also be clicked much faster than the better-featured Garmin Forerunner 935, which is more expensive. And even with all gps/GLONASS tracking on, battery life doesn’t get much damage, which is a real plus.
We won’t go into details about everything you can do when working with the 735XT, but it’s enough to say there’s not much we want. Virtual speed, tour/tempo/heart rate alerts you can customize, the ability to karma your workout plans from the web is a real boon… In short, you can do everything you need with the watch.
Customization on data screens is also excellent, meaning you can know exactly what two clicks will do up or down while running without taking your step to make sure.
The running dynamics are great… But we’re not sure that most people will benefit so much. The only thing really useful is the ability to track whether you’re going left or right harder, and you’ll need to use the additional heart rate belt to get the information.
Another small support we like from the time is the addition of heart rate variability (HRV) tracking. As for swimming, we saw that it was the perfect choice for the drill-based swimmer. It’s really easy to hit the buttons in the water and the screen is also quite visible underwater, the hit detection also works well in our tests and, as mentioned, the data is very easy to query at the end.
In short, while accuracy can sometimes be faulty, the Forerunner 735XT’s swimming skills in a pool are great for someone who brings drills together. While we haven’t tested it in open water, if it’s something like its predecessor (and assuming Garmin heals things), tracking is great and stroke detection – along with GPS tracking – is quite accurate.
When cycling, it’s really hard to make mistakes with the Forerunner 735XT, because it not only offers you all kinds of measurements (hopefully you get the theme here), it also connects to ANT+ and Bluetooth accessories, meaning most power meters and turbo trainers are compatible with the watch and can easily load your activities.
The only thing that’s really frustrating is that it’s not a strap extender, so it’s not easy to lock this watch on your handle to read your stats quickly.

Garmin Forerunner 735XT’s interface is pretty easy to use – find countless hidden functions activated when you turn your head and hold down various keys at different times.
It’s easy to manipulate quickly, which is like a dream – we were able to change our virtual speed setting (the function where you can see how far or behind a certain speed you are) in the middle of a race, and it only took a few seconds.
It’s also great to have notifications open at this hour – when connected to your phone, you’ll get exactly the right amount of previews to see if you need to look at that text or WhatsApp message, or if it’s worth accepting the call.
However, recent upgrades are good at giving you more ideas, saying you’re ahead or behind your normal activity, which shows your sleep patterns, activity levels and calorie intake (if you sync with something like MyFitnessPal).
Sleep tracking is a bit primitive and lacks the understanding of some competing platforms, but overall it offers a good look at your movement at night and is a little more sensitive than something we love, like Samsung Health.

In a word, at some recent prices, yes. It’s a great, stylish watch with so many functions, but it’s okay if you don’t use it all.
It has such a robust GPS system that we’ll almost question how some races are held, as you’ll hear a number of other Garmin watches “pinging” at the same time a few feet before the mile mark.
The fact that you can set up many different ways to run, ride a bike or swim on this thing – along with an attractive design – means it’s one of the best fitness hours on the market right now and has a strong fitness tracker and is stylish enough. Wear it every day.
